The Dialogue Society is hosting a meeting to allow local residents to meet with Warren Morgan.

They say: “The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen connections between the politicians and local people such as Brighton & Hove residents, students and businesses operating in the city. The meeting will enable participants to air any concerns or views they have about, local governments, local and national policies which affects them. All are welcome – All concerns are important.”

Pegasus Award funding available for children and young people’s activities in Coldean, Bevendean and Moulsecoomb

Grants of up to £500 are available via the Pegasus Award, which is being run with pupils at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA).

The aim is to support fun learning activities in Bevendean, Coldean and Moulsecoomb for young people (aged between 5 and 18 yrs old) so that they can be safe, stay fit and be connected to their community.

To be eligible, you must be able to agree to the following criteria:

  • Our organisation is applying for £500 or less
  • Our application will fund activities/work with young people aged between 5 and 18 years old
  • Our activities/work will take place in either the area/s of Bevendean, Coldean and / or Moulsecoomb
  • Our activities/work will be either new, additional or a development from our usual activity. (Funding cannot support existing/core salaries).
  • Our application is not for personal, unethical, illegal, religious worship or political purposes
  • Any funding received will be spent within 6 months of receipt

To apply, you need to complete a short form and  make a 2 minute video about your project. Pupils at BACA will vote to decide which projects get funded, based on the videos.

Applications must be submitted by 10th February 2016. Decisions will be made by 24th March 2016.

Sanctuary Housing Grand Ideas Fund

Charities, community groups, residents associations and voluntary organisations that are working in the interest of Sanctuary Housing residents can apply for a grant of up to £1,000 as long as they have a formal constitution or legal structure; a bank account in the organisation’s name, and an equal opportunities policy.

The main focus of the activity must mainly benefit Sanctuary Housing residents, have a community focus and be open to, and inclusive of, all.

Garfield Weston Foundation supports Resource Centre!

We are delighted that the Garfield Weston Foundation has given the Resource Centre a £10,000 grant towards the cost of our advice and support work in 2016-17.

This funding will enable us to continue our free one-to-one support for:

  • Groups run by local residents in areas of social housing in Brighton & Hove
  • Self-organised BME community groups
  • Self-organised groups run by disabled people

Working with Communities Training

The Trust for Developing Communites has a few places left on their Working with Communities training. These are taking place on various dates in January 2016:

Wednesday 13th January – one day course for those already working with communities or who are too busy to attend the two day course.

Tuesday 19th January 2016 with day two on 1st March – a two day course supporting participants to design and test out their own approach to working with a community

Thursday 4th February with day two on 17th March, this course is particularly focussed on the role of teams, leaders and trustees when working with communities.

The course is only £50 for organisations with a turnover above £35k and free for smaller groups.

Information session about the Community Health Fund

Community Works are holding an information session about the Community Health Fund on Thursday 3 December, 6pm to 8pm at BMECP, 10a Fleet Street Brighton.

The fund is aimed at groups with an annual income of under £35,000.

The session will introduce the fund and it’s aims, go through the application form and timetable for applying and give information about support available to help you to make an application. There will also be plenty of time for your questions and networking with other groups there.

Community Health funding for health improvement projects

If your group is planning a project which improves the health of your members, you can apply for a Community Health grant of up to £1500 in January 2016.

Community Health funding is one of several different pots of money managed by Sussex Community Foundation. You can apply for it by filling in the general Sussex Community Foundation application form, and returning it by 15th January 2016.

The Community Health fund is keen to work with groups who are just getting started and those whose health and well-being activities support LGBT people, people from BME communities or older people (including intergenerational work). This does not exclude other groups from applying.

Stalls available at Celebrating Faith in Our Community event

Local community groups are invited to hold stalls at an event to celebrate faith in our local community.

This event has been organised by a small group of faith organisations, working with the Interfaith Contact Group, B&H Faith in Action, the Health and Social Care Faith Forum and Community Works. Its purpose is to recognise and celebrate the wealth of work currently delivered by faith groups in the city and explore the potential for increased partnership working, sharing expertise and resources.

The event is aimed at anyone with an interest in the work of faith groups in our city, including faith leaders, representatives of faith projects and groups, voluntary and community organisations, commissioners, public service managers and city leaders.

Brighton Energy Coop Community Fund

Brighton Energy Coop recently launched their new Community Fund: www.brightonenergy.org.uk/community-fund/. This year the fund is for £2,500, and is open for any organisation in the Brighton and Hove, East or West Sussex areas.

The aim of the fund is to support local generation of renewable electricity or implement energy efficiency measures, as has been the intention for BEC since they began. They are looking to receive applications by the end of November, with a decision mid December, and projects completed by March 2016.
