We do this by providing a full weekly meals on wheels service to underrepresented and vulnerable residents in need of health fresh nutritious meals, we receive referrals from BHCC, Impact Initiatives, ECBPCN and word of mouth. We are also collecting and redistributing surplus food ( over 700 tonnes of surplus food has been redistributed and saved through us) to other food organisations representing the vulnerable and schools and food banks – providing them with free fresh fruit and vegetables and also using fresh surplus food in our menus. We run Lunch Clubs and Art Clubs, which have had to take a bit of a back seat this year but will be back

We also work with our local East Central Brighton PCN team who refer patients to us for meals on wheels and Hospital Discharge for drug and alcohol patients who need regular meals and support once discharged. We also run community events and barbacues in East Brighton, providing free food for the local community and bringing people together to learn about food and recycling, surplus food and generally promote fresh food. The Resource Centre have supported many of these events with the wonderful Smoothie Bike, badge machine maker, large play connect 4 and giant jenga!- we have been at Whitehawk FC with ECBPCN promoting blood pressure checks – we are looking to do much more in this area.

We are also running a national campaign with a petition to the government to make Meals on Wheels Statutory – it will save the NHS billions of pounds and save the nations health and have a positive outcome for Adult Social Care too. Our first petition to Parliament didn’t have enough signatures to be debated – we will be campaigning until we do get enough people aware and onboard.

We have also built good relationships with local and national food businesses who support our work and regularly donate food.

Comments about the Resource Centre

Thank you for being there for us across Brighton and Hove, and for all the hard work that you do.
Thank you to Dani, Mireille and the team for the quick turnaround on our promotional materials for Glastonbury! They were super helpful and generous with their time to help us get things printed quickly.
None at all. Good that the drop off and pick up are bookable as the narrow road makes access difficult but also helpful once there as no one else can get in the way and it is easier to unload. Thank you we will come again soon
Keep going!
Thanks so much to the lovely people there.
No- keep up the great work. It’s a fantastic resource thank you
I think it’s a great service – reduces the amount of waste / products sold and supporting community activities.
It’s brilliant
The team are always so pleasant helpful and cheery, they always go out of their way to help and support.
Fantastic set up, team and Information.
Dani has helped us loads from recreating formats to fit pages advice on how to do things for fundraising and what to get. Shes always ready to help even when we drop in at the last minute.
Dani and the rest of wonderful team in the resource centre have made everything go smoothly always and are so happy and kind in the process. Thank you all for making it easy!
None it was excellent
Really valuable resource locally.
Thank you
Opening and closing times/ slots given  aren’t particularly conducive to working people.
Keep doing what your doing! Your service are amazing and it’s helped our group grow and being able to do stuff.
Keep doing what you’re doing it’s an amazing resource 😉
Nope- it’s amazing!
Everyone is friendly and super helpful. It might be useful to offer training sessions on using the equipment.
Always such a useful place and incredibly helpful and accommodating staff. We use the centre to print materials and hire equipment on occasion, it is invaluable to our project.
Always really helpful, is much appreciated
Everyone is always so lovely!
Fantastic resource – we couldn’t do what we do with fundraising without them
We would be unable to have posters printed for activities due to costs. You all really help make a difference.
It is a brilliant resource for us, we would not have had such a variety of stalls if it wasn’t for the RC
A fantastic community resource – invaluable
No – don’t change! Everything is perfect as it is!
I have no comments as the committee are very proactive and the customers are heard
Brilliant offering and we’re very grateful. Really glad the email communication was available.
Brilliant service, massive support to community groups. Very well trained and knowledgeable, great resources
Staff and resources available are extremely helpful
They are an amazing the do amazing work supper suportive
It’s an excellent service!
The resource centre provides a fantastic range of services, we’re very lucky to have it and the wonderful people who run it.
Amazing resource.
Honestly, I have always been amazed at how cost effective you guys are. The equipment is really easy to hire and really decent. Such a great organisation. Thank you so much!
Thank you!
We rent stuff from the resource centre every year and use the facilities to print our signs, maps and miscellaneous things we need for the event, the staff at the centre are always extremely helpful and calm. We use the service at an extremely hectic time of the year for our organisation and the team at the centre make it easy to get everything we need in an atmosphere of calm friendliness that makes it a pleasure.
You are a truly wonderful bunch of people providing a very needed service in a very efficient, fast, friendly, kind and helpful way – you have saved us many many times! And we have been very demanding and needed things ASAP – you always deliver a fantastic service and we cannot thank you all enough.
Very helpful – and work with us to get results we need as a committee as we are in need of help. Thank you
It’s not very well known – we’ll spread the word
Amazing centre. Extremely helpful
Thank you

Comments and suggestions about equipment for hire

Every time we have needed equipment, it has been there for us.
No it went really smoothly. I was particularly grateful for the brilliant labelling and instructions
Nothing so far.
It would be a good idea to promote what people can rent from you. May be send a flyer to all seniors housing schemes in Brighton and Hove as many do not have a tenants association etc.
Outdoor night lights (for Xmas fair)
BBQ
Just to remind customers to check all items working and all items there before taking.
Such and easy process and so cheap thank you!
We just ned to book things a bit sooner, some things weren’t available but we were offered great alternatives.
It was all good service.
We would have liked to have more zettle machines. We made our own “soak the teacher” as yours wasn’t available.
I know another group wanted the candy floss machine for the same date as us.
There was a good choice of equipment
Can’t think of anything
No – we own most of the equipment we need, but that isn’t much!
Stating how many candy floss sticks & bags had been pre-ordered on the email
Freezers?
I’m satisfied with the whole process
I was surprised how booked uo younger that we couldn’t get everything we wanted. However, next time, we will book earlier. No problem.
The gazebos and shelter tents were difficult to put up – simpler items would help  but this is a very small point
We think your service is wonderful! And you’ve always had what we’ve needed when we’ve needed it. And picking up and collecting has always gone very smooothly…Perhaps you do need a couple of new smoothie bikes – they are brilliant but the chain does come off : )
We know they are there if we need equipment at all

Comments about the print service

e.g. What are the reasons why you do your printing at the Resource Centre? Or why you don’t? Is there a type of printing you currently do elsewhere that you think we should offer?

We print our free local magazine at the Resource Centre, and it has saved our volunteer a lot of time and expertise, ( and space in her office room where we had a machine that kept breaking down. )
I didn’t know of this service but will find out more as we need printing
Need your help to fix or change our community printer please.
Cheap and helpful
Fantastic range, very helpful team always make things look perfect and adjust to help and suit.
The team always help us so much to get those final touches, re formatting to fit the best page size and making everything look perfect
Accessibility and drop in and support
The printing is so affordable and the option to do it your self or to get it printed is very handy at times.
We are still waiting to get our own office equipment and find it to be very imperative to the running of our group to use your services in the meantime
We don’t have printing needs.
We have opted to pay the higher rate for having the work done for us because it was very time consuming doing it ourselves if unfamiliar with equipment.
We use the print service for printing forms, posters, evenr materials and more. It is so great to have a place where we can do all our printing, and without the resource centre we would need to spend more time & money printing materials.
Price, A3, colour – not possible in our office
Business cards that are fridge magnets
We use the Resource Centre as they are so efficient, the quality is good, they make helpful suggestions and are prompt.
Awesome
Really helpful staff – I wouldn’t manage without their extremely patient expertise! Makes life much simpler
It’s relatively local – the staff are always helpful – and the prices are very reasonable. You meet all our requirements for printing.
We use the print service because it is high quality, value for money and the very helpful members of staff. It provides a level of expertise we do not have.
Education group members, Finance support group, promotion of activities
Excellent
No you guys are fantastic at what you do
Very helpful and straightforward and a fraction of the cost elsewhere
We haven’t because we didn’t know about it – I would like to know more.
Your print service is brilliant – we’ve used you many many times and often with tight deadlines and you always give as a fantastic service with fantastic quality print too – both for paper and the larger outdoor print too, as well as wonderful advice and proof reading! We cannot recommend you enough and always do recommend you.
When needed, we use them for delivering information for tenants etc

Comments about the information service and website

We have funding to redesign our website – what improvements would you like to see?

Thanks for the important information on your website.
Not sure!
It wasn’t working for me last week but it is now and it is good.
Don’t make it to complicated it’s currently easy to use.
Maybe you could book on the website, instead of emailing. You could then clearly see what was available on your required date.
Not used. If I have a question I would always prefer to come and speak with you rather than use a website – that’s a problem of getting old!
Contact number top of page
Great excellent accessible user-friendly
We love your service! Congratulations on getting a new website – Always good to have the address and phone number easy to find
Very good for us. Helpful.
Thanks for your kind help and support you provided to our community members.
I belive it Made us feel a bit more confused about the situation.
I have read some of the leaflets about running small groups. Our organisation has been running for over 100 years and we have handed down a great deal of help to each other ovber the years.
No, just thanks for being there!
I have always received excellent service
Would have struggled to continue management without support with book-keeping
Again, you run a fabulous service! Anytime we’ve needed advice The Resource Centre has been brilliant – the most recent time was when I needed someone to cast an eye over a very official e-mail to the government – and the advise and reassurance were so good!
They listen and help for what we need at that time. Thanks

One thing you would change about the Resource Centre

Absolutely nothing, everyone is approachable and friendly, nothing is too much trouble, and even silly questions get answered.
Nothing …. well thought out and such helpful and kind, friendly staff
I think it’s brilliant! Possibly, longer opening hours one day a week?
Nothing to be considered
Maybe longer opening hours
Nothing
? Ability to hire more than 6 items for a fair. But acknowledge it needs to be equitable for everyone asking
The timed appointments are a bit bureaucratic. Don’t see the need really.
Nothing
They are perfect
Nothing
Its a great service and helpful team. Brilliant products available and very easy to use the service. We couldn’t get what we wanted but the alternatives were really good.
If we could pay a deposit by BACS that would be great – but this is a minor quibble.
More funding for you
Location- it’s hard to collect and drop off equipment.
When doing the DIY printing have a instructions lists.
Open on Wednesdays
A price rise came in after placing our order, and we were charged the higher price. I would have expected to pay the pricing that was in place when the order was placed.
To have parking available- though i was luck and there was a space when i returned items- it’s good that it’s a deadend as it makes it easier.
Can’t think of anything!
Nothing!
I am very happy how things are. No need to change anything.
Parking!
I can’t think of anything to change it works so well and efficiently and the staff are always helpful and friendly
Parking can be tricky to collect equipment!
Nothing
Nothing, you guys & gals are lifesavers
Maybe have a couple of the football goal type things for a fayre – they are popular!
Nothing
Location! Near a bus stop and/or on level ground!
The length of time receiving or returning loaned items
Live next door
A dedicated car drop-off space
Longer opening times
They had funding for extra staff
The very specific collection times can be tricky, I know this is staffing related but perhaps an option to select convenient times or allowing a day or two extra to return items would be useful – I’m sure this is ok if people ask but sometimes they don’t want to cause a problem
Can’t think of anything.
The parking is always quite tricky so something you can’t do anything g about sadly.
Open more often!
Free sweets on arrival, served on a silver platter.
Nothing!
Nothing! You are such a brilliant service!
Going up the hill to the Centre
Parking 🙂
Easier parking!
It is really great, staff immensely helpful. I can’t think of anything.
That you had more funds to exist
Even more resources ☺️
Nothing – it is great!
