Aims of Fund

To support Southern Housing communities to organise events and activities for residents.

Who can apply

Southern Housing Group tenants, individually or as a group.

How much and what can you apply for

Covid-19 Community Support Fund

If you are a constituted community / volunteer group (with a community group bank account) taking an active role to respond to emerging Covid-19 needs for Southern Housing Group residents, you can apply for up to £5,000. There are specific guidelines for this fund, but applications should be made using the Making Lives Better application form.

Making Lives Better

You can apply for grants of up to £1,000 towards the cost of running events and outings for the community. If you are planning a gardening project, apply for a Southern Housing Group Gardening Neighbours grant instead.

Grant funding may be used for projects which contribute to one or more of the Community Investment Department’s themes, which are:

  • Neighbourliness and Communities
  • Improving Health and Wellbeing
  • Sustaining Tenancies
  • Tackling Poverty

You will need to raise some of the money from elsewhere to ‘match’ any funding provided by Southern Housing.

Funding cannot be used to purchase raffle prizes (as raffles should be funded from the sale of tickets), alcohol, cancellation charges, salaries (to individuals who are not business registered), fixtures, fittings, television equipment, computers and improvements to the fabric of buildings or any other cost that would be covered by the service charge.

Non SHG customers may benefit from the project, however, SHG customers must be given priority and where there is an individual cost involved, for example day trips, non SHG customers would be required to cover the cost themselves.

The maximum grant per SHG customer benefiting from the project is £17. So if your outing or event will benefit 20 residents and they are all SHG tenants, the maximum you could apply for is £340.

For more information about this grant scheme, download the full guidance.

How to apply

Read the guidance and then fill in the online application form.

You also need to complete a risk assessment and submit it with your application. They provide a risk assessment template.

There are no deadlines, but you need to apply at least 6 weeks in advance of your event.

For more information, to request an application form, or for help with your application, get in touch with the Grants Officer by phone or email.
